Dr. Henrik Pontzen braved the heat last week and gave an informative guest lecture on "Sustainable companies on the capital market" in the Reporting Issues subject.

Last week, Dr. Henrik Pontzen, CSO (Chief Sustainability Officer) at Union Investment, braved the heat and gave a fascinating guest lecture in our Master's course "Reporting Issues" at 30 degrees.
A lively dialogue ensued between Dr. Pontzen, the curious students and our lecturer Dr. Sandra Chrzan. Together they delved into the exciting questions:

- How can sustainable investment opportunities be identified?
- Why do you find companies in sustainable funds that don't seem sustainable at first glance?

Dr. Pontzen explained that sustainable investing is based on the three dimensions of sustainability and takes place in three steps:

1. bad companies are avoided by applying exclusion criteria.
2. better companies are selected on the basis of quantitative indicators
3. improvements are promoted by exerting influence as a co-owner.

The question of how to make a real contribution to achieving the climate targets showed that it is essential to support those companies that are on a clear transformation path. It is not only relevant what a company produces, but also how.
A big thank you to Dr. Pontzen for the inspiring insights and the stimulating discussion!
